Assistant Director of Care Permanent Full-Time Position
Organization Background Ritz Lutheran Villa is located in Mitchell in Southwestern Ontario, 45 minutes north of London near Stratford. Our organization is comprised of:

  • Two long-term care homes, each with its own campus – The Villa with 83 beds and Mitchell Nursing Home with 48 beds
  • Ritz Manor with twenty-five independent living apartments
  • Thames River Place with twenty-five independent living Life Lease town homes
  • Mitchell and Area Community Outreach providing support services for seniors in the community
  • Mobility Bus service
  • Ritz Village by the Thames, in the planning stage, with 83 assisted and independent living home suites

Position Summary This challenging opportunity will appeal to an individual who enjoys a Long Term Care setting in a small town atmosphere, where you can get to know the residents, staff and family members. As part of the Leadership Team you will provide value based leadership and direction to the nursing services as well as to the organization as a whole using your critical thinking, strategic planning and problem solving skills. The goal of the organization is to establish a team approach to the harmonization of resident care philosophy and the nursing management policies and procedures for these sister homes. Mentoring for this position will be available at the outset to ensure a smooth transition.
Your qualifications include:
  • RN with current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Progressive, professional leadership/management experience, preferably in long term care
  • Knowledge of long-term care home standards and MOHLTC legislation would be an asset Your interests and experience focus on resident-centered care, being part of a continuum of care, proactively anticipating and responding to change.

You will have Director of Care (DOC) responsibility for Mitchell Nursing Home three days per week and, as ADOC, will support the DOC with the leadership and direction of nursing services to ensure that all care will be provided as required by:

  • The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) legislation and other Ontario related legislation
  • Ontario College of Nurses standards and guidelines
  • MOHLTC and Ritz Lutheran Villa policies, guidelines and procedures

Position: Personal Support Worker
Start Date: ASAP
Employment Status: Part Time
Location: Ritz Lutheran Villa
Position Summary: This Personal Support Worker is responsible for providing care to residents as directed by the register staff in charge.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have their certification in Personal Support Worker, Secondary School Diploma, in good physical condition with strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Working Conditions: Exposure to resident bodily fluids, bio hazardous materials, chemicals and equipment are regularly encountered. The incumbent may deal with confused or aggressive residents. Regular pushing and use of mechanical equipment specific to resident handling is required.

Position: Registered Nurses
Candidates are invited to apply for the above position to work at Ritz Lutheran Villa, located in Mitchell, Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Care, the RN will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice in keeping with the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Long Term Care Standards and Extendicare Standards.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as, observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care.
  • Assist in assessing residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians’ orders.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in in-service education. Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisal and refers problems to the Director of Care.
  • Assist in preparing the Facility for RAI MDS.
  • Take charge of the Facility in the absence of the Director of Care.
  • Staff replacement in the absence of the care clerk.
Qualifications:
  • Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  • Registration or eligible for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
  • Previous managerial experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as Knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and with others while prioritizing tasks to handle the most urgent first.
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; puts information from various sources together to see the ‘big picture’, and generate creative solutions.
  • Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
