The following report serves to provide our RLV & MNH residents and family members an update on action items and plans for the day to day operations of both homes.
COVID-19 Resident & Family Update
May 6, 2020
Dear Families & Residents,
We are very pleased to report that the mass swab testing for residents and staff at both homes have returned negative! This is worthy of a big sigh of relief. However as of May 3, there are now 212 LTC homes that have declared COVID-19 outbreaks across Ontario.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has ravaged LTC homes for the following reasons:
- Delays in public health measures including access to PPE.
- Chronic staffing issues that include numbers, wages and benefits
- Older facilities with limitations for infection prevention and control
- Elderly, frail residents with multiple co-morbidities
Our homes have been effectively able to manage the above issues very well. Now that May is upon us and we are seeing the emergence of nice weather, we have received many calls / emails from family members that really want to come and visit their loved ones. While we completely understand the wish to do so, unfortunately, we are not able to allow for either one to one family visits, or even outdoor roadside visits. The continued danger of infecting our residents remains very high at this time.
There is good news on the horizon though, as the number of overall infection rates and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to fall in Ontario. If we can stay patient with any luck and good infection control procedures, families will be welcomed back to visit soon! Thank you for your consideration in these matters. If you have any concerns with our services please do give us a call.
Respectfully,
Jeff Renaud
